Ningbo University Health Science Center
The precursor to the Ningbo University Health Science Center was the Medicine Schoolof Ningbo University, which was founded in 1998 through the generous donations initiated by the renowned medical scientistin Hong Kong, Dr. Tong Yuhuan. In November 2022, it was elevated to a Health Science Center.
The center offers three five-year undergraduate programs in Clinical Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Dentistry, one four-year program in Pharmacy, an undergraduate program in Clinical Medicine (MBBS) for international students studying in China, and an innovative top-notch program in Clinical Medicine. It also has one academic doctoral program in Clinical Medicine, three master's degree programs in Clinical Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and Basic Medical Sciences, as well as three professional master's degree programs in Clinical Medicine, Public Health, and Pharmacy. Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Biology and Biochemistry have entered ESI Top1% .
The center currently has 2,751full-time students, including 50 doctoral students,900 masterstudents, 307international students, and 1,494 undergraduate students; in addition, there are 1,115 studentswith equivalent academic abilities applying for a master's degree. In the past five years, students have won one national grand prize, second prize, and third prize each in the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, as well as one provincial grand prize and four first prizes. They have also won one first prize and one third prize at the provincial level in the "Challenge Cup" University Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, one silver prize in the National "Internet+" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition finals, andfivegold awards, two silver awards and one bronze awardin the Zhejiang Province "Internet+" College Students Entrepreneurship Competition (two of which were awarded to international student teams). The overall employment rate of graduates has remained above 97% for three consecutive years, with an acceptance rate for postgraduate studies of 55.86% for the class of 2023 clinical medicine undergraduates and 30.3% for the class of 2023 preventive medicine undergraduates. According to statistics from the National Medical Examination Center, our department's clinical medicine undergraduates had a practical pass rate of 92.19%, a comprehensive exam pass rate of 93.16%, and an overall pass rate of 85.16% in the 2022 National Practitioner Qualification Examination, exceeding the national average by 14.75% points. The theoretical examination pass rate for 2022 master's students in clinical medicine was 98.98%, the clinical practice ability examination pass rate was 100%, and the total pass rate was 98.98%.
The center consists of four schools: the School of Medicine, the School of Basic Medical Sciences,the School of Public Health, and the School of Pharmacy; two university-level research institutes affiliated with the center: Ningbo University New Drug Technology Research Institute, and Research Institute of Smart Medicine and Biological Engineering, Ningbo University.The center owns one national-level international cooperative research platform - the Marine Biomedical Innovation Intelligence Base, and one Marine Biomedical Provincial International Science and Technology Cooperation Base. It has two platforms: the Large Instrument Platform Center and the Ningbo University Body Donation Center. It is responsible for managing the Ningbo University Behavioral Neuroscience Center, Ningbo University Diabetes Research Center, Ningbo University Biomedical Engineering Research Center, and Ningbo University Experimental Animal Center. It boasts five directly affiliated hospitals, five non-directly affiliated hospitals, twelve teaching hospitals, fifteen preventive medicine teaching practice bases, fifteen community health service practical teaching bases, seven pharmaceutical teaching bases, and one "13thFive-Year Plan" provincial university off-campus practice education base.
The center has been approved for one national teaching team, one Zhejiang provincial teaching team, and eight Ningbo city science and technology innovation teams. The Ningbo University Health Science Center has received recognition for four national-level courses,nineteenprovincial-level courses, and one nationally approved top-tier specialty. It also boasts one provincial top-tier specialty, one provincial key specialty, one provincial advantage specialty, and one provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. The Health Science Center has also been approved to participate in the pilot project of the Excellent Doctor Education Training Plan by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health. The university has 2 provincial key laboratories, 10 city-level key laboratories, 1 provincial first-class discipline, and 3 key disciplines at both the provincial and city levels; The center presided over national projects 168projects (with 2 key projects) and 337provincial projects, with a total scientific research fund of 193million yuan; It won 1 second-class National Science and Technology Progress Award (participation) and 15 ministerial and provincial technology awards. The center has been granted 83invention patents, published2,041papers (1,341 of which are high-level papers and 29 are highly cited), and published 19textbooks and monographs, with 6 compilations.
The center has a high-level faculty, including 98 full-time teachers and 747 clinical teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 31 professors, 29 associate professors, and 38 intermediate level faculty members. The faculty also includes six high-end foreign experts, 45doctoral supervisors, and558master's supervisors; ten of them receive special grants from the State Council, and 47have been selected for various talent projects at the provincial and municipal levels.
The center actively pursues internationalization, develops programs for international students, conducts all-English teaching, and has been enrolling international students since 2011. In 2020, it cooperated with the Université Bourgogne Franche-Comté in France to offer a Double-Doctoral Program in Clinical Medicine.It has established academic exchanges and friendly cooperative relationships for teacher-student exchanges with institutions such as the Medical University of South Carolina in the USA, Medicine School of Angers University in France,University of Skövdein Sweden, University College London Medical School in the UK, the University of Nottingham in the UK, Western Sydney University in Australia, and the University of Adelaide in Australia.
