100200 Clinical Medicine (first-level discipline)
The discipline of the clinical medicine supported by the program is the key discipline of “12thFive-year Plan” and first-class discipline of “13th Five-year Plan” and entered top 1% of ESI in 2015 of Zhejiang Province . In 2003, 2006 and 2011, the grant right of master’s degree of surgery, internal medicine and clinical medicine was obtained respectively; in 2014, the master’s degree program for clinical medicine was approved in 2014; the first-level discipline doctoral program for clinical medicine was approved in 2018. The program owns excellent teaching teams and solid discipline foundation. At present, there is a national teaching team, including 457 mater supervisors, 47 doctoral supervisors, 10 talents enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, 45 talents at different levels listed as the provincial and municipal talents and 51% of teaching faculty having overseas education or working experience. The program owns three directly affiliated hospitals, 8 non-directly affiliated hospitals and the three directly affiliated hospitals are awarded Grade “A” in the performance test of national tertiary public hospitals published by National Health Commission for two consecutive years. A total of 3 provincial and regional special disease centers, 3 national standardized training bases, 5 provincial and municipal key disciplines, 4 Ningbo medical brand disciplines and 8 Ningbo key support disciplines are established and developed.
The program boasts obvious clinical advantages and distinctive scientific research characteristics and owns obvious characteristics in early screening, diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors, diagnosis and treatment of otorhinolaryngology head and neck diseases, and diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases. A total of 11 national projects and 49 provincial and ministerial projects have been developed, with a total research fund of 29 million yuan. It owns 3 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards; it has authorized the issuance of 19 invention patents and published 2918 papers (including 624 high-level papers) and 48 books.
Taking “foster virtue through education” as the fundamental task, the program aims to cultivate excellent medical talents. Meanwhile, as the leading discipline of the provincial key university, the program has formed a complete bachelor-master-doctor education system on clinical medicine.

01 Internal medicine
The main research contents include diagnosis, treatment and experimental research of cardiovascular disease, digestive tract disease, chronic liver disease and metabolic syndrome. At present, cardiovascular internal medicine has become the “provincial and municipal key discipline” for diagnosis and treatment training base of National Health and Family Planning Commission of the P.R.C., national certified center of chest pain, national drug and food administration certified drug clinical trial institution, regional special disease center of Zhejiang Province (East Zhejiang), and Ningbo government and Zhejiang government; Ningbo clinical characteristic key specialty, “Ningbo key medical discipline”; while hematology is a “key supported discipline of Zhejiang Province” and respiratory medicine, gastroenterology and other disciplines are currently “key disciplines of Ningbo City”. The discipline has a strong team of supervisors and owns four municipal key laboratories.
02 Surgery
The main research contents include organ transplantation, nerve, cardiothoracic, hepatobiliary and bone surgery and tissue engineering. It is supported by “general surgery”, “cardiothoracic surgery”, “skull base surgery” and other Ningbo municipal key disciplines, and becomes the first key specialty with clinical characteristics in cardiac surgery center, Ningbo organ transplant research center as well as Ningbo health brand discipline and develops the clinical medical research center for digestive system tumors in Ningbo.
03 Psychosis and mental health
The main research contents include basic and translational research on drug dependence, Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, senile dementia and other mental diseases. It has established the largest intravenous self-drug administration platform for portal vein in China, discovered the glutamate metabolic loop and intervention target of heroin relapse, and explored and established a comprehensive drug rehabilitation intervention model in China, which has won the second prize of National science and Technology Progress and the first prize of provincial science and technology. It has clarified the mechanism of synaptic plasticity damage caused by Aβ oligomers, compared the epigenetic differences and characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease among Han and Uygur population. The research results have been published in prestigious journals such as PNAS and J Neurosci.
04 Otolaryngology
The main research directions include the laryngopharyngeal head and neck and otorhinolaryngology related skull base tumor resection and reconstructive defect, sensitive gene screening, mechanism and minimally invasive diagnostic value and biological information processing of laryngopharyngeal head and neck tumor, synthesis of new biological materials, stem cell transplantation and other technologies applied in otorhinolaryngology tissue engineering, clinical treatment of deafness and drug induced deafness gene screening, artificial tympanum synthesis and clinical application research, nasal eye, nasal skull base related navigation technology and allergic rhinitis epidemiology and pathogenesis, diagnosis and research. The discipline aims to establish a national endoscopy base and three experimental bases (including one key laboratory in Ningbo); it has established academician workstation and led the establishment of otolaryngology head and neck surgery specialist alliance at East Zhejiang as well as the Head and neck tumor plastic center in East China.
Professor Liu Yu, head of the Program: Doctor of Neuroscience, doctoral supervisor, West China Medical Center of Sichuan University (Pharmacy), PhD (Neuroscience) of Wake Forest University, USA; Postdoctoral Fellow (Psychopharmology) of Wake Forest University, USA; who has obtained the title of Zhejiang “151” talents of the third level, Ningbo “3315” overseas high-level talents, member of the Drug Dependence Toxicology Committee of the Chinese Toxicology Society, member of the Addiction Group of the Psychosomatic Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the second council member of the Zhejiang Neuroscience Society; Liu is mainly engaged in the prevention, treatment and mechanism study of drug dependence and co-morbid mental diseases. He has presided over three National Natural Science Foundation projects and several natural science Foundation projects of Zhejiang Province and Ningbo City. He is the leader of the sub-subjects such as Ningbo “Science and Technology Innovation 2025” project, Zhejiang “2019 Key R&D Plan and National Social Science Foundation” project; he has presided over the Ningbo University-Ningbo Kangning Hospital co-construction platform for the treatment and rehabilitation of elderly mental disorders, and drug research and development cooperation platform of Ningbo University-Enzymaster (Ningbo) Bio-engineering Co., Ltd. ; he has published more than 40 high-level papers and guided postgraduates to obtain 2 national invention patents and led the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the science and technology projects of many provinces and cities; moreover, he has also led two first-class courses in Zhejiang Province; as the first instructor, he has won the special prize of the 14th “Challenge Cup” of National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition; served as associate editor/co-editor of Functional Science Experimental Course, New Psychoactive Substance Case Handling Practical Manual, International Drug Control Blue Book - International Drug Control Research Report” and other works.

Researcher Zhou Wenhua: second-level technical specialist, doctoral supervisor, be granted with the special allowance of the State Council, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Zhejiang Province, selected as the first level of 151 talents of the New Century in Zhejiang Province, currently serves as member of the editorial board of Psychopharmacology Journal and the executive director of China Association for Drug Abuse Prevention and Control. He is mainly engaged in the research on the neurobiological mechanism of opioid addiction and comorbid psychiatric diseases, as well as the prevention and treatment of drug dependence. He has carried out study on the mechanism of opioid and other mental dependence and relapse earlier in China, and found a number of central sites related to drug relapse and intervention targets for drug addiction. He has independently developed and established the largest research platform for intravenous self-administration of portal vein in China and promoted its application in China. He has presided over 9 national fund projects (1 joint key project), led 3 provincial education department and municipal innovation teams, and participated in 4 projects such as 973 project and major science and technology special projects. He has published 70 high-level papers with more than 2000 citations. He has won 1 first prize of provincial scientific and technological achievements (2011), participated in the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress. He is mainly responsible for courses such as Neurobiology for doctoral students.
Ye Guoliang, chief physician: the leader of gastroenterology in Ningbo, director of Basic Digestive Endoscopist Training Base of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, member of Esophageal Disease Collaboration Group of Digestive Endoscopy Branch of Chinese Medical Association, vice chairman of Digestive Endoscopy Branch of Zhejiang Medical Association, and chairman of Digestive Endoscopy Branch of Ningbo Medical Association. He is good at the diagnosis and treatment of endoscopy for early cancer of the digestive tract, diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding, endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of biliary-pancreatic diseases, minimally invasive treatment of gastrointestinal stenosis, and application of new endoscopic techniques; and has been invited to demonstrate endoscopic surgery at domestic and foreign academic conferences for many times. He has carried out early diagnosis and treatment of digestive tract tumors and basic research in China. In recent years, he has completed 3 municipal and municipal projects, presided over 2 provincial and municipal projects, participated in 1 national and provincial natural project, published more than 30 papers, and won 4 provincial and municipal science and technology awards. He is good at various large vessel surgery, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, critical valve disease surgery, complex congenital heart disease correction, heart and lung transplantation, as well as general thoracic surgery for lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mediastinal tumor and other types of tumors. He has carried out a large number of difficult and high-risk cardiac operations and filled the medical gaps in many provinces and cities. At the same time, he actively carries out heart and lung transplantation, and has successfully completed the second orthotopic heart transplantation and the first lung transplantation in Ningbo. He has led the development of cardiothoracic surgery, making the discipline become one of the heart surgery centers in eastern Zhejiang Province, one of the top three cardiac surgery departments in Zhejiang Province, and one of the famous disciplines in eastern China. At present, cardiothoracic surgery has become a provincial and municipal key discipline, a provincial and regional special disease center, a municipal clinical medicine brand discipline (the brand discipline ranking among the best in the assessment for three consecutive years), and the first batch of municipal clinical characteristic key specialties. He has presided over and participated in the research of 34 scientific research projects, 16 of which have won provincial and municipal achievement awards at all levels, and published more than 90 papers, including more than 20 high-level papers. As the correspondence author, he has published 15 high-level papers. As the first author, he has published 1 article in Chinese journals and trained 14 masters and doctors of cardiothoracic surgery and 3 young in-service doctors, 2 of whom have been selected as the leading and top talents in Ningbo. His current research interests include the study of molecular mechanism and early diagnostic marker of coronary heart disease and rheumatic heart disease; establishment of gene diagnosis platform for non-small cell lung cancer and its early diagnosis and treatment research; development of molecular mechanism, individualized treatment and development of new techniques for aortic dissection aneurysm.
