Hospital Introduction
The hospital was established in 1919, originally founded through community fundraising as the Zhenhai Tongyi Hospital. It has a history of more than 100 years and is currently a public Grade III Class A psychiatric specialty hospital with strong comprehensive capabilities that integrate medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, and disease prevention. At present, it operates under the designations of Ningbo Mental Health Center, Ningbo Center for Prevention and Control of Mental Disorders, and is affiliated with Ningbo University as the Tongyi Hospital. In 2020, Ningbo Kangning Hospital merged with Ningbo Institute of Microcirculation and Solanaceous Medicine Research and the Ningbo Drug Rehabilitation Research Center, adding the designation of Ningbo Institute of Microcirculation and Solanaceous Medicine Research.

The facility has 10 clinical departments (comprising 16 wards), 14 outpatient medical technology departments, and 13 administrative departments. It currently has 750 approved beds, with the capacity to expand to 1,000 beds.
The hospital has a total of 598 employees, including 118 contracted personnel and 492 health technicians. Among these employees, 118 hold senior professional titles and 263 have intermediate professional titles. The institution boasts 5 doctors, 81 masters, 4 doctoral candidates, and 28 master's degree candidates, along with 2 doctoral supervisors and 10 master's supervisors. The hospital undertakes the tasks of medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, training, and guidance for mental health in Ningbo city. It houses several institutions including the Ningbo Minor Psychological Health Guidance Center, the Ningbo Psychological Health Association, the Ningbo Medical Psychology Research Institute, and the Ningbo Social Psychological Service Guidance Center. The hospital is responsible for the national pilot programs of comprehensive management of severe mental disorders and the construction of a social psychological service system. Projects like the "Needle Affection Companion" long-acting injectable community treatment program and the "Peer Alongside" peer support community rehabilitation project have won multiple provincial and municipal awards.

The hospital serves as a teaching hospital for Ningbo University School of Medicine, North China University of Science and Technology, Bengbu Medical College, Zhejiang Normal University, and Ningbo Tianyi Vocational and Technical College. It is designated as a forensic psychiatric assessment unit in Zhejiang Province, a national standardized training base for resident physicians, a national clinical trial base for drugs, the headquarter unit of the Psychiatry Branch of Ningbo Medical Association, and the Psychiatry Branch of the Ningbo Association of Integrative Medicine.
The hospital also functions as the Ningbo branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Mental Disorders (affiliated with Xiangya Hospital Second Affiliated Hospital of Central South University) and the Ningbo Clinical Research Center for Psychiatric and Psychological Diseases. It has established six major academic development centers including the Child and Adolescent Psychological Diagnosis and Treatment Center, the Psychological Counseling and Treatment Center, the Dementia Medical Treatment Center, the Sleep Disorders Treatment Center, the Affective Disorders Specialty Center, and the Physical Therapy Center. To support these centers, the hospital has constructed 11 academic research teams, holds one provincial-level key laboratory—the Zhejiang Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Research Key Laboratory—and supports one key provincial discipline—Neurobiology. Furthermore, it houses one municipal-level key laboratory—the Ningbo City Key Laboratory for Physical Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental and Psychological Diseases—and maintains one municipal-level brand discipline—the Ningbo City Discipline of Child and Adolescent Psychological and Sleep Disorders—as well as one city-supported key discipline—Psychiatry.
In addition, the hospital undertakes teaching tasks for various scientific research institutions and colleges, such as the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wenzhou Medical University, North China University of Science and Technology, Bengbu Medical College, and Ningbo Health Vocational and Technical College.

Additionally, the hospital was selected for a major breakthrough project by Ningbo's high-end medical and health team. In 2022, the hospital applied for 21 projects at various levels, published 26 papers including those in SCI/Chinese series journals, with 3 papers having an SCI impact factor above 10 points, and 20 papers above 5 points. The highest single paper impact factor reached 13.89 points. It also published 4 monographs, was granted 2 invention patents, acquired 20 other patents, obtained 12 software copyrights, and initiated 2 results transformation projects.
