Professor Guo Junming from the Ningbo University Medical Department Selected for the "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" List

Recently, Elsevier released the 2023 list of "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers," which includes 5,801 individuals from 496 universities, enterprises, and research institutions, covering 10 disciplines and 84 first-level subjects under the Ministry of Education. Among them, Ningbo University boasts 17 scholars on the list, with Professor Guo Junming from the Medical Department being one of the selectees, marking his fourth consecutive year on the list.

Medical Research: Persistently Unveiling the Mechanisms of Tumor Development

Professor Guo Junming has long been engaged in molecular biology research on tumors. He has led six National Natural Science Foundation projects and participated in four national-level projects, receiving six provincial and ministerial science and technology third-class awards and two municipal and departmental first-class science and technology progress awards. He has published 170 academic papers, with over 10,000 citations, and a single paper with up to 713 citations, achieving an H-index of 57. One of his papers was selected as one of China's 100 most influential international academic papers in 2017. His discovery of three long non-coding RNAs associated with gastric cancer led to their naming by the International Human Genome Organization as Gastric Cancer Associated Transcripts 1, 2, and 3, reflecting pioneering and distinctive research. He also edited China's first monograph on "Non-coding RNA and Tumors," whose scientific achievements have improved the early diagnosis of gastric cancer and yielded significant social benefits.

Having worked on the front lines of teaching for nearly 37 years, Professor Guo insists on integrating theory with practice, transforming the latest research findings into teaching resources. The "Biochemistry and Molecular Biology" course he leads has become a national bilingual teaching demonstration course, widely recognized and praised by teachers and students alike. Professor Guo has received numerous teaching awards, including the municipal teaching achievement first-class award and the university's first-class course teaching excellence award. He has been honored as Ningbo University's "Teaching Master," "Most Popular Professor," "Top Ten Professors," and "Sunshine Professor."

Many of his students have won prestigious awards, including the provincial outstanding graduate, the university's "Top Ten Students," the Challenge Cup National College Students' Extracurricular Scientific Works Competition grand prize, the East China regional prize in the National College Students' Clinical Skills Competition, two Ningbo University "Jiang Xinghao Student Research Achievement Awards" for special prizes, one first-class prize, the Zhejiang Provincial College Students' "Challenge Cup" first and second prizes, the National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Contest first prize, and the National Top Ten Youth Science and Technology Stars, among others. He also diligently guides postgraduate students, serving as a master's supervisor in basic medicine and oncology, and as a doctoral supervisor in clinical medicine. Among his postgraduate students, two have received outstanding master's thesis awards in Zhejiang Province, and seven have received outstanding thesis awards from Ningbo University. He himself has been honored with the Best Supervisor Award at Ningbo University's Graduate Academic Festival.
