Personal Profile: Honglei Weng, Professor, graduated from Zhejiang University. He conducted research on liver fibrosis under the guidance of Professor Wei-Min Cai during his master's and doctoral studies (1996 – 2002). From 2003 to 2004, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry at RWTH Aachen University Hospital in Germany. Since 2006, he has been serving as a Senior Scientist and Principle Investigator at the Department of Medicine II, Section Molecular Hepatology, University Medical Center Mannheim, Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University. He is a peer reviewer for several journals, including Hepatology, GUT, and J Hepatol. Currently, he is leading multiple research projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). His main research areas include:
(1) cytokine regulation of molecular mechanisms in liver fibrosis;
(2) pathological features and cellular and molecular mechanisms of liver failure; (3) hepatic progenitor cells and the development of liver cancer.
