Personal Introduction: Su Xiaodong

Professor Su Xiaodong is a doctoral supervisor, national-level talent, the Executive Deputy Director of the Biomedical Pioneer Innovation Center (BIOPIC) at Peking University, and a professor at the School of Life Sciences at Peking University.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Department of Physics (now School of Physics) at Peking University from 1980 to 1985;

From 1988 to 1994, he studied in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology;

From 1995 to 1998, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) of the Division of Biology at the California Institute of Technology in the United States;

From 1998 to 2002, he served as an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor at the Center for Chemistry at Lund University in Sweden;

Since 2003, he has been a Distinguished Professor at the School of Life Sciences at Peking University.

His main research areas include structural biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, single-molecule biophysics, next-generation genome sequencing technology, cancer genomics, rational drug design based on structure, and antibody engineering design. Since obtaining his Ph.D. in 1994, he has published more than 200 academic papers and translated the best-selling textbook in structural biology "Structural Biology—From Atom to Life". He has published papers in prestigious academic journals such as Cell, Nature, Science, Annu. Rev. Pharmacol. Toxicol., Nature Methods, National Science Review (NSR), Nat. Strucut. & Mole. Biol. (NSMB), PNAS, Cell Research, EMBO J., EMBO Rep., Cell Rep., Nucleic Acid Research (NAR), Genome Research, J. Biol. Chem., J. Mol. Biol., J. Immuno., etc., with total scientific paper citations exceeding 9000 times. He has served as the chairman of the Asian Crystallographic Association (AsCA); chairman of the Macromolecular Crystallography Commission of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr); president, secretary-general, and chairman of the Macromolecular Committee of the Chinese Crystallographic Society; founding chairman of the Single-Molecule Biology Branch of the Chinese Biophysical Society, among other positions.

For over twenty years, Professor Su Xiaodong has established high-throughput protein cloning, expression, purification, crystallization, and crystal structure analysis technology platforms at Peking University, achieving the goal of high-throughput structural genomics research and having a certain influence in the international related fields; In the past five years, following the international development trend, he has actively carried out structural analysis work using cryo-electron microscopy. Since 2010, together with Academician Xie Xiaoliang and Professor Huang Yanrong, he founded the Biomedical Pioneer Innovation Center (BIOPIC) at Peking University and serves as the Executive Deputy Director. Using modern high-throughput deep sequencing technology (NGS), he studies tumor genomics and explores new research fields, aiming to develop new technical methods, discover new biochemical and molecular biological mechanisms, and identify new disease-related genes and gene mutations.
