Date: October 25, 2024, from 13:00 to 14:30
Location: Smart Classroom 404, Zhi Zhen Building, Ningbo University Health Science Center
Presenter: Dr. Reginald T-H Tang
Presenter's Biography:
Dr. Reginald Tang obtained his Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry from Princeton University in 1971. With over 50 years of experience across both industry and academia, Dr. Tang specializes in biomedical devices, polymer chemistry, battery electrolytes, fuel cell membranes, and catalysis. Over his career, he has held numerous academic positions at institutions such as Princeton University, Indiana University, Drew University, California Institute of Technology, and California State University Long Beach. He has also served in industrial roles within large companies and startups, including United Signal/Honeywell and a biomaterial venture capital firm. Dr. Tang has been involved as a panel member and reviewer for government-funded review committees and research journals. He has published 29 articles and holds 25 U.S. patents related to biomedical devices, polymer chemistry, electrochemistry, and catalysis.
Seminar Content:
The seminar will cover the advantages of bioabsorbable medical devices, including providing mechanical support during recovery periods, reducing irritation and discomfort caused by foreign objects, and showcasing solutions with novel biomaterials. These materials feature programmable residence times, addressing issues with existing materials that absorb too quickly or slowly while also reducing acidity and lowering pollution risks. The discussion will extend to potential applications of this technology in various medical fields such as anti-adhesion devices, bone regeneration, and nerve repair, emphasizing its low-cost manufacturing and superior biocompatibility characteristics.
The seminar will also be available via Zoom:
