The Affiliated People's Hospital of Ningbo University
The hospital was established in 1949 and has remained in its original intention through several changes. On June 11, 2020, as approved by the Health Commission of Zhejiang Province, Ningbo Yinzhou People's Hospital became a hospital directly affiliated to Ningbo University, withitsname changed to the“Affiliated People's Hospital of Ningbo University”(the name“Ningbo Yinzhou People’s Hospital”was retained as the second name). On June 17, 2021, in accordance with the document Notice of the Health Commission of Zhejiang Province on the Announcement of the Conclusion of the Second Batch of General Hospital Grade Review in the Fourth Cycle (Zhejiang Health Commission Circular No. [2021] 69), the Hospital was promoted as a Grade 3 Class A General Hospital.
The Hospital is located at No. 251, Baizhang East Road, Ningbo, with integrated functions of medical treatment, tuition, scientific research, emergency care, preventive health care, rehabilitation, etc. The Hospital covers an area of 90 Mu (about 6 ha.), with a total construction area of about 151,800 square meters and over 1,650 beds available. In 2022, there were over 1.525 million outpatient and emergency visits, over 65,000 patient discharges and over 26,000 surgeries. The East Hospital Area under construction (former Yonggang Hotel site) covers an area of 22.17 mu (about 2.48 ha.), with a building area of 51,000 square meters, and is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2023, upon completion, it will serve as a modern women and children’s medical center, international medical examination center, scientific research and experiment center, clinical skills training center, etc. It will be equipped with medical equipment such as MRI, 64-row spiral and large-aperture CT, linear gas pedal for tumor radiotherapy, tumor simulation and localization machine, emission computed tomography ECT, digital subtraction angiography DSA, myopic all-femtosecond laser, digestive system tumor ultrasound endoscopy, four-dimensional color ultrasound scanner, mammography Mo-target scanner, holmium laser for lithotripsy, digital X-ray machine, mobile DR, etc. to provide high-quality medical services for patients.
The Affiliated People’s Hospital of Ningbo University (Yinzhou People's Hospital) has 1,800 employees, including 400 employees with senior titles and 350 masters and doctors. In March 2019, a medical commInstitutiony was established with Ningbo Yinzhou People's Hospital as the central hospital, which leads a total of 11 branches in Baizhangand Dongjiao, Baihe, MinglouandDongsheng, Dongliu, Eastern New Town, Qiu’ai, Wuxiang, Yunlong, Hengxi, Dongwu and Zhanqi, serving the communities under jurisdiction and radiating East Zhejiang.
The Hospital vigorously implements the strategy of“Promoting the Hospital with Science and Technology, Talent and Culture”. In 2001, the Hospital passed the assessment of the first batch of Grade 3 Class B hospitals in Zhejiang Province; in 2015 and 2018, it passed the JCI International Hospital Quality Certification in both years; in 2017, it successfully established the“National Standardized Training Base for Residents”and the“National DemonstrationInstitutionof TCM in General Hospitals”. Furthermore, in 2018, the Hospital passed the demonstration assessment of "China Chest Pain Center" and "National Standardized Construction of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Department"; in 2019, it was awarded the title of "StandardizedInstitutionof National VTE Prevention and Treatment Center"; in 2018 and 2021, the Hospital was awarded Grade A in the performance appraisal of tertiary public hospitals announced by the State for four consecutive years, ranking 146 nationwide and 17 in the province; in 2020, the Hospital was awarded the title of“Organizationwith Outstanding Achievement in County Medical Community Work in 2019”by the General Office of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and General Office of Provincial People's Government. The Hospital has established medical education and research cooperation with School of Medicine of Zhejiang University, Wenzhou Medical University, the Ninth People's Hospital of School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, the Tenth People's Hospital of Tongji University, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University (Shanghai Changhai Hospital).
The Hospital has long placed priority on discipline construction and talent cultivation. In 2001, the Hospital was the first in Ningbo to carry out liver transplantation, combined liver-kidney transplantation and combined pancreas-kidney transplantation, which were first performed in county and district level hospitals in China; the first in Ningbo to perform allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell bone marrow transplantation; the first in Ningbo to perform deep lamellar full-thickness lamellar corneal transplantation, lung transplantation, etc. In the past five years, the Hospital has been implementing the strategy of“minimally invasive”,“painless”and“large tumor”, with the levels of cataract + IOL implantation, vitrectomy, bronchoscopic intervention, bone marrow transplantation, malignant lymphoma treatment, gastrointestinal ESD/EMR/RF treatment, duodenoscopy/ERCP treatment being in the forefront of Zhejiang Province. The Hospital is also capable of performing other high precision and complex surgeries: Direct vision surgery for complex congenital heart disease under extracorporeal circulation, acute aortic coarctation, coronary artery bypass grafting, brainstem tumor resection, moyamoya disease vascular bypass grafting, percutaneous spinal endoscopic cervical and lumbar disc nucleus pulposus removal and spinal canal stenosis decompression, hand destruction injury repair and reconstruction, microscopic anterior cervical disc resection and decompression intervertebral implant fusion and internal fixation, laparoscopic pancreatic cancer radical surgery, pancreaticoduodenectomy, radical surgery for intra- and extra-hepatic bile duct cancer, complex liver cancer resection, etc. In around 2016, the Hospital successfully treated six critically ill patients with H7N9 avian influenza infection, setting two new records for the level of avian influenza treatment in the province: the highest age of avian influenza patients and the longest use of extracorporeal membrane pulmonary oxygenation (ECMO) for patients. Currently, the Hospital has over 30 key disciplines at all levels, including 10 key disciplines at the municipal level and above, such as Zhejiang provincial and municipal key disciplines, Zhejiang regional specialized disease center (ophthalmology), Ningbo medical key disciplines (hematology, respiratory medicine, oncology), Zhejiang County Level Leading Medical Disciplines (hepatobiliary surgery, gastroenterology, critical care medicine), Ningbo city and district leading medical disciplines such as cardiology, otorhinolaryngology as well as obstetrics and gynecology; 1 academician workstation, 2 renowned medical studios of the main committee of the Chinese Medical Association, leading the formation of 6 specialty alliances such as Zhejiang East Ophthalmology Alliance, and in 2019, it was awarded the postdoctoral workstation of Zhejiang Province. There are over 30 masters and professors; 4 experts in specialized technical secondary positions currently in the Hospital. There are three deputy members of the Medical Professional Committee of Zhejiang Province, nine members of the Medical Professional Committee of Ningbo, two members of the Top Ten Famous Physicians of Ningbo, as well as three members of the Famous TCM Practitioners (Basic Level) of Ningbo. In the past five years, the Hospital has been granted 4 National Scientific Research Projects, 8 Zhejiang Provincial Natural Fund Projects, 2 Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards, 7 City and Office Science and Technology Progress Awards, including 1 First Prize; it has published 1538 papers, including over 553 papers in SCI and Class I journals. It has hosted 19 national continuing education programs and 42 provincial continuing education programs.
