The 13th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation were successfully held in the afternoon of November 7 (Beijing Time). Mira, a secondary school student from the Confucius Institute at Toamasina University, Madagascar, has won the first prize.
The competition, themed as “Fly High with Chinese”, required participants to compete in basic knowledge written examination, Chinese talent show, keynote speech, interesting knowledge quiz, video listening and “special speech for my hometown” etc., so as to test the knowledge of China’s national conditions, the ability of comprehensive learning and practical application of Chinese language presented by contestants.
This competition was conducted in the form of “Cloud Recording” through network connection, as affected by COVID-19 outbreak, and the system of promotion was adopted. Mira, who won the first place in the qualification in Madagascar area, competed with outstanding contestants who came from all over the world with Chinese language skills through “Cloud Field” platform, interpreting Chinese language and cultural charm. Undergone four competing stages namely qualification, quarter-final, semifinal and final, Mira was promoted to the final after gaining the second place in African area, and won the first prize in the final, honored with “Ambassador of Chinese Language”. Meanwhile, she obtained the Chinese Education Scholarship for proceeding to the degree in China and a round-trip ticket. Shen Huafang, her advisor, was awarded the honorable title of “Outstanding Advisor”.
The Confucius Institute at Toamasina University set a good example for the Chinese learners in Madagascar, through what it has achieved in all previous “Chinese Language Bridge” competitions, inspiring more people to learn Chinese language.
