On September 24, the 79th edition of the "Apricot Forest Forum - Opening the Window of the Soul: Learning the Anatomy of the Eye" hosted by Ningbo University Health Science Center was successfully held. The event attracted more than 50 primary school students and their parents.
It is often said that the eyes are the window to the soul, and having a pair of healthy, bright eyes is an essential foundation for everyone's future orientation, work adaptation, and quality of life improvement. Dr. Wang Geng from the Ningbo University Health Science Center led the children in "opening" the window of the soul and learning about the anatomy of the eye. He used models and drawings of the eye, introduced various structures of the eyeball wall and its contents from outside to inside, cited more than 10 diseases related to the eye and vivid metaphors, helping children unconsciously remember all knowledge points. Both adults and children listened attentively, and the children actively participated in interactions. In the end, Dr. Wang explained the close relationship between the axis of the eye and myopia. Through the study of the anatomical structure of the eyeball and the introduction of eye-related diseases, the children had a deeper understanding of correct eye usage and eye care, and it also made parents pay more attention to visual health.
The purpose of this popular science activity is to let primary school students understand the anatomical structure of the eye and the causes of myopia, to let everyone understand the dangers of myopia and scientific eye usage methods, cultivate teenagers' respect for scientific values, popularize medical knowledge, and stimulate interest in medicine. It also calls on everyone to "Prevention and control of myopia among adolescents cannot be delayed, care for visual health, and protect the window of the soul!".
