Ningbo University Health Science Center Holds the Third Academic Festival - "Basic Medical Sciences Forum"

Author: Date: 2023-11-12

On November 11th, the Basic Medical Sciences School of Ningbo University Health Science Center successfully held the "Basic Medical Sciences Forum" in the multifunctional hall of Wang Changlai Building. The forum set up invited keynote speeches and reports by young scholars from the School of Basic Medical Sciences. Five influential scholars in the field of basic medical sciences in China and eight young scholars from the School of Basic Medical Sciences were invited to give rich and fascinating academic reports for the faculty and students of the Health Science Center. The meeting was presided over by Professor Wen Jinsheng, the executive dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences.

At the meeting, researcher Qin Chengfeng, a "National Outstanding Youth" from the Military Medical Research Institute of the Academy of Military Sciences, gave a report titled "mRNA Technology to Deal with Pandemics: From Vaccines to Antibodies", sharing the role of mRNA technology in combating the outbreak of COVID-19, and introduced the advantages and research progress of mRNA vaccines. Professor Wang Xudong from the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University gave a report titled "Exosome LMCD1-AS1 Promotes Intestinal Cancer Neurotropic Invasion and EMT through NF-kB Pathway", explaining that exosome LMCD1-AS1 derived from colorectal cancer cells activates EGCs' NF-kB signaling pathway, thereby up-regulating GDNF and NGF secretion, and further promoting EMT of colorectal cancer cells. Researcher He Xianghuo, a "National Outstanding Youth" from Fudan University Biomedical Research Institute, gave a report titled "Long Non-coding RNA and Malignant Tumor Diagnosis and Treatment", mainly explaining the mechanism of OncLn1 in tumor development, suggesting that LncRNA's specific expression in liver cancer and prostate cancer can be used as a biomarker and therapeutic target in clinical applications. Professor Chen Jinfei from the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University gave a report titled "Basic and Translational Research on Gastrointestinal Tumors", mainly explaining the biological marker research related to susceptibility, early screening, malignant phenotype, prognosis prediction, and drug efficacy prediction of gastrointestinal tumors. Researcher Wang Tao from Fudan University's Brain Science Translation Research Institute gave a report titled "Energy Metabolism and Protein Homeostasis Imbalance in ALS/FTD", explaining the new role of C9orf72 protein in regulating cellular energy metabolism in mitochondria, and the important role played by energy metabolism abnormalities caused by its functional defects in the disease progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

Eight young scholars from the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Professor Xu Shujun, Researcher Fang Difeng, Professor Chen Xiaowei, Associate Professor Ji Lindan, Associate Professor Hou Ruixia, Associate Professor Jiang Liming, Dr. Wang Xiao, and Dr. Chen Pan, respectively gave reports on "The Mechanism of Lysosomal Dysfunction in Alzheimer's Disease", "Type 1 Immune Response and Immune Tolerance Induced by Toxoplasma gondii Infection", "Mechanism of Neuronal Membrane Pore Regulation of Chronic Pain", "Evolutionary Genetics Research on Common Complex Diseases", "Construction and Application Research of Tissue Engineering Scaffold", "Research on Treeshrew Model of Dengue Virus Infection", "Design, Screening and Mechanism Exploration of Pathogen Control Drugs", and "Regulation Mechanism of Cell Nucleus Size and Its Relevance to Cancer", fully demonstrating their latest scientific research results.

During the report process, the attendees actively interacted with experts and had in-depth exchanges and lively discussions. The latest research results presented by experts and young scholars from the college were of great benefit to the improvement of teachers' and students' academic levels and scientific research capabilities. Holding the "Basic Medical Sciences Forum" is one of the various long-term mechanisms adopted by the School of Basic Medical Sciences to create a strong academic atmosphere, promote academic exchanges, intersections, cooperation, and implement Ningbo's "Medical Summit" plan.
