On the afternoon of June 28th, Ningbo University Health Science Center convened a meeting to promote the construction of medical peaks in Ningbo City and advance the development of medical disciplines. The theme of the meeting was: Strengthen the coordination between medical education and comprehensively promote the high-quality development of clinical medicine and other disciplines within the school. Cai Ronggen, President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lv Chaofeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President, and Li Weiping, Vice President, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Zhenzhu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Medical Department's Party Committee.
Cai Ronggen made an important speech. He pointed out that the Ningbo municipal government attaches great importance to the construction of medical peaks and the development of the Medical Department, and improving the construction of medical disciplines is crucial for enhancing the department's strength. To elevate the level of medical disciplinary construction, firstly, it is necessary to identify gaps and strive to improve the standard of discipline construction. The Medical Department must clarify its goals and quickly address deficiencies; secondly, it is essential to firmly push forward the integrated development of medical education. The Medical Department and affiliated hospitals need to find collaborative pathways, clear integration bottlenecks, achieve mutual support, and win-win cooperation; thirdly, implementation must be vigorously enforced, and the enthusiasm of all parties should be fully leveraged. The Medical Department should dare to take responsibility and brave challenges, while affiliated hospitals should actively integrate and engage, and functional departments should provide focused support and work together in the same direction. He stressed that all units and departments should follow the principle of "supporting needs" in discipline construction, go all out to ensure the high-quality development of medical disciplines, continuously advance the construction of medical peaks in Ningbo City, and make greater contributions to the construction of a healthy China.
Lv Chaofeng noted that the Medical Department and affiliated hospitals are vital components of the university, and the construction of the school and hospitals serves as the city's golden business card. Streamlining the system and mechanism among the school, Medical Department, and affiliated hospitals can draw on successful experiences and cases from renowned domestic universities to avoid detours. He emphasized that the school would formulate some countermeasures around the construction of medical peaks to help alleviate resource constraints in the Medical Department.
Li Weiping believes that the Medical Department should intensify efforts to attract high-level talents, have plans and focuses during the recruitment process, adopt a case-by-case approach for special talents, and the school will fully support the cultivation of high-level talents; actively promote the evaluation and appointment work for "double-qualified" teachers, preparing for the next round of doctoral program applications.
During the expert report session, Professor Dong Qian, former Dean of Qingdao University Affiliated Hospital, former General Director of Qingdao University Medical Group, and renowned pediatric surgeon, gave a report titled "Some Thoughts on the Construction of Clinical Medicine Disciplines - Examples from the Clinical Medicine Discipline Construction of Qingdao University." He introduced the basic situation of Qingdao University's clinical medicine disciplines and the disciplinary construction system of Qingdao University Affiliated Hospital, sharing experiences on how characteristic smart healthcare promoted the improvement of hospital overall levels through discipline construction. Relevant heads of the Discipline Construction Office reported on the situation of medical disciplinary construction. They analyzed the background and connotation of discipline construction, current status and shortcomings, core indicators of discipline construction in clinical medicine, public health, and preventive medicine, using detailed data to guide the next steps in medical department discipline development.
During the discussion and exchange session, leaders of the Medical Department combined with the development planning of the Medical Department, reported on key and difficult issues related to discipline construction and requested policy support from the school and cooperation from all affiliated hospitals. Leaders of five directly affiliated hospitals reported on problems existing in clinical medicine discipline construction and proposed relevant countermeasures and suggestions based on their actual situations.
Relevant functional offices of the school, medical classes, party committee secretaries and deans of directly affiliated hospitals, heads of teaching and research management departments, full members of the Medical Department’s party and government team, leaders of primary disciplines and professional degree programs, and directors of various management offices attended the meeting. Ningbo University's affiliated Ningbo Haishu District Stomatological Hospital was invited to attend the meeting as well.
