Author: Date: 2023-10-13

The Institute of Intelligent Medicine and Biomedical Engineering at Ningbo University (abbreviated as "IME") is a research institution affiliated with Ningbo University, administratively attached to the Medical School of Ningbo University. The IME is led by Professor Yao Yudong, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, AIMBE Fellow, IEEE Fellow, and Professor Qian Wei, an AIMBE Fellow, with middle-aged and young researchers as the backbone of the team and medical experts as consulting advisors. Focusing on practical clinical needs, the IME prioritizes wearable and remote medical devices, medical imaging, and intelligent analysis in the field of intelligent medicine, and lays out the biomedical engineering discipline through the cross-integration of materials, biology, medicine, information, mechanics, and other disciplines, creating an innovative research institute combining production, learning, research, and medicine. The IME provides important support for the construction of the Yangtze River Delta Innovation Center from the aspects of high-tech R&D and top talent cultivation, while actively connecting with local industrial needs, building cooperative platforms, promoting the coordinated development of education, science, and economy, and supporting the "double first-class" construction of Ningbo University.

Research Direction 1 of IME: Wearable Devices and Remote Medicine: Mainly oriented towards chronic disease management, 5G-based remote medical platform, intelligent sensors, etc., primarily including:

o ICU Intelligent Research (Real-time monitoring and medium-long term prediction of ICU vital signs; MIMIC data extraction and analysis; ICU intervention)

o Intelligent Medical Research Cloud Platform and Frontline Medical Research Laboratory (Providing medical research tools for doctors, supporting data-driven frontier medical research)

o Intelligent sensor technology, biosensors, nanomaterials, microfluidic chips

o Synthesis and application of medical polymer materials, biomimetic medical artificial systems

Key equipment includes laser confocal microscope, electrochemical workstation, four-probe resistivity meter, universal testing machine, 3D biological printer, optical microscope, rotary evaporator, PCR instrument, PCR gel imaging system, etc.

Research Direction 2 of IME: Medical Imaging and Intelligent Analysis: Focusing on early screening of chronic diseases such as diabetes and early diagnosis of cancer, the key research includes new medical optical imaging systems, radiomics, artificial intelligence diagnostic techniques, primarily including:

o Intelligent diagnosis and prognosis of COVID-19 based on image data

o Intelligent analysis of digital pathological images based on multimodal data

o Intelligent analysis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases

o AI empowerment for the whole process of radiology, new molecular imaging technology, Raman imaging technology

Key equipment includes large servers, workstations, confocal Raman spectrometer, etc.
