The Ningbo University Experimental Animal Center is an important public service platform of Ningbo University, located on the west side of the Health Science Center of Ningbo University (No. 818 Fenghua Road, Jiangbei District, Ningbo City). The center operates under the guidance of the Experimental Animal Management Committee of Ningbo University, jointly led by the Health Science Center and the Assets and Laboratory Management Office. Its daily operations and administrative work are managed by the Health Science Center of Ningbo University and are supervised, inspected, and managed by the Zhejiang Provincial Experimental Animal Management Committee.
The Ningbo University Experimental Animal Center passed the relevant department's inspection at the end of 2008, received the "Experimental Animal Use Permit" issued by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and was put into use. It is the first SPF-level experimental animal center in Ningbo City and one of the members of the Zhejiang Provincial Experimental Animal Public Service Platform. The center has a building area of 1500m2, including ordinary environment animal breeding and experimental area (220m2), barrier environment animal breeding and experimental area (SPF-level small rodent experiment and breeding area, 770m2), and auxiliary rooms (510 m2). The ordinary environment breeding is divided into guinea pig breeding room and rabbit breeding room. Both ordinary and barrier environments have animal operating rooms and laboratories, providing standard sites for ordinary level and SPF-level animal experiments. In addition, the center also has offices, teaching rooms, and multifunctional laboratories. Animal supply implements a quality certification system to ensure standardized quality. The center is equipped with excellent professional breeders who can raise commonly used experimental animals at all levels. The types include ordinary rabbits, guinea pigs and other medium-sized animals; SPF-grade small rodents include SD rats, ICR mice, Kunming mice, guinea pigs, BALB/C, C57BL/6 mice, BALB/C nude mice and other experimental animals. At the same time, it can also provide standard animal breeding equipment and related materials.
The center has an animal surgical operating room and various laboratories. It is equipped with small animal anesthesia machines, small animal ventilators, biochemical analyzers, blood analyzers, urine analyzers, surgical microscopes, B-ultrasound, sphygmomanometers, various surgical instruments, and other equipment. Also, it has small devices and drugs related to surgery, reagents, etc. It can undertake animal experiments in related disciplines such as pathophysiology, medical imaging, pharmacology, toxicology, biochemistry and molecular biology, immunology, and neurobehavioral science. The technical staff of the center has rich experience in making large and small animal disease models, such as making organ living surgery models such as arteriovenous catheterization, gastric catheterization, gallbladder catheterization, as well as animal coronary artery ischemic heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, neurobehavioral science, and other models. Since the center was put into use, it has undertaken a number of national and provincial and ministerial scientific research projects related to experimental animals. The center's researchers have completed 2 national-level scientific research projects and 8 provincial/ministerial projects, assisted more than 100 scientific research projects inside and outside the school, and are currently carrying out more than 30 projects. The center's enthusiastic, high-quality service and superb experimental technology have won unanimous praise from researchers. In recent years, the center has continuously improved the management system and management system of experimental animals, completed the "Compilation of Regulations and Systems of Ningbo University Experimental Animal Center", strengthened internal management through scientifically formulating various regulations and systems, and is currently developing towards a scientific, standardized, and institutionalized experimental animal center. The center attaches great importance to talent training, has formulated a talent team construction plan, sends professional technical personnel to training classes every year to master advanced experience and technology. At present, among the technical staff of Ningbo University Experimental Animal Center, there is 1 person in the medical profession, 2 people in biology, 2 people in zoology, 1 senior title, 1 intermediate title, 4 graduate students, and the discipline echelon structure is reasonable.
At present, all the experimental sites and facilities of this center are open to the public, providing standard experimental animals and standard experimental sites needed for teaching and scientific research for higher education institutions, health care systems, biological pharmaceutical companies, and other units. Relying on the strong talents, scientific research conditions, and good humanistic environment of Ningbo University, the Experimental Animal Center actively carries out experimental research and technical services.
