Forwarded: Selection Notice for the Spring 2024 Inter-University Exchange Program at the University of Macau

Author: Date: 2023-09-02

The University of Macau is one of our partner institutions in the Macau Special Administrative Region. To allow students to delve into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and experience the multicultural environment of higher education in Macau, our university will select exchange students to study at the University of Macau during the spring semester of 2024. The selection requirements for the program are as follows:

I. Introduction to the University

The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized comprehensive public university that upholds the motto of "Humanity, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom, Sincerity". It boasts a unique teaching model and a residential college system. UM is the first higher education institution in Macau to be awarded the "Medal of Merit in Education" by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2023, UM ranked between 201-250 overall, 5th for international outlook, 26th among young universities globally, and 33rd among Asian universities. It has ten disciplines within the top 1% of ESI, including Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Materials Science, Biology & Biochemistry, Clinical Medicine, Psychiatry/Psychology, Social Sciences, and Agricultural Sciences. (For more information, please visit the official website://www.um.edu.mo/)

II. Program Information

  1. Eligible Applicants: Undergraduate students from Ningbo University in the classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022;

  2. Number of Places: 3 (for the entire university, dispatched in the spring);

  3. Exchange Duration: One semester in the spring of 2024 (generally from January to late May). The tentative schedule for UM’s spring semester of 2024 is from January 4 to May 18, with classes starting on January 4.

III. Application Requirements

  1. Undergraduate students enrolled at Ningbo University with majors aligned to those at UM and with an average GPA ranking in the top 30% of their year and major. (Since most courses in the Faculty of Law at UM are taught in Cantonese or Portuguese and cross-faculty course selection is not possible, interested students should consider their circumstances accordingly);

  2. Outstanding academic performance, active participation in various social practice activities, good organizational and communication skills, and a sense of responsibility for serving society, capable of independently carrying out learning tasks;

  3. Secured family financial conditions to cover transportation, living expenses, accommodation fees, etc., while continuing to pay the relevant fees to Ningbo University;

V. Important Notes

  1. Exchange students will be arranged to stay in the residential colleges of UM. For details about the residential colleges, please refer to://rc.um.edu.mo/year-1-students/. The estimated accommodation fee for staying in a residential college for one semester in the 2023/2024 academic year is approximately MOP 8,000 (tentative), and it may be adjusted each year with further details to be announced separately.

  2.
