Selection Method for Candidates of the Sino-French Joint MD-PhD Program in Clinical Medicine for 2023 by the School of Medicine

I. Program Background Ningbo University collaborates with the University of Burgundy Franche-Comté to jointly cultivate doctoral students in clinical medicine. This program adopts a dual-mentor and dual-campus joint training model, aiming to nurture high-level, internationalized doctoral candidates in clinical medicine.

The university allocates at least two targeted spots annually for the joint Sino-French double-doctorate program, recruiting through an integrated master's and doctoral degree approach. The final quota will be subject to the information published by the Graduate Admission Office of Ningbo University.

II. Material Review Students must submit their application forms and relevant supporting materials before June 30, 2023. Those who meet the application requirements upon review will then proceed to the interview stage.

III. Expert Interview (a) Composition of the Expert Panel: An interview panel consisting of no fewer than five experts. (b) Interview Content The assessment includes both foreign language proficiency and professional interviews:

  1. Foreign Language Proficiency Assessment (65%): Mainly assessing the candidate's oral communication skills and professional English reading ability, etc. Interviews are conducted individually, with an assessment time of not less than 10 minutes. Candidates need to submit a research plan in English in advance, outlining their research interests and ideas, and may provide a brief introduction to the field, with a word count not exceeding 1000 words.

  2. Professional Interview Assessment (35%): Focuses on assessing the candidate's academic background, professional qualities, logical thinking, innovative abilities, comprehensive quality, and potential for development. Candidates will introduce their undergraduate studies, motivation and plans for participating in the program, as well as present their research plans and ideas for the integrated master's and doctoral period, answering questions regarding basic professional knowledge and research plans. The presentation should last no less than 7 minutes in principle. (c) Calculation of Scores The composite assessment score = Foreign Language Proficiency Assessment (65%) + Professional Interview Assessment (35%). Experts from various fields will assess and score specified aspects, averaging the scores of both sections and then multiplying by the respective proportion coefficients to obtain the final comprehensive assessment score. The scoring criteria for the Sino-French joint MD-PhD program interview can be found in Appendix 1.

IV. Student Admission Candidates will be ranked according to their interview scores from highest to lowest. In conjunction with the number of places allocated by the university, the final number of admitted students will be determined by the expert panel.
